pricing & payment
It may feel awkward to talk about money. It may even be a trigger for anxiety or shame, which is why as much information as possible about pricing and payment is made available ahead of time. The goal at halfpenny birds is to make therapy and support as accessible as possible. If you still have questions or something doesn't quite make sense, please send an email to hello@halfpennybirds.com.
free initial consult
Maybe therapy feels like a luxury or maybe you just don't know if it's worth it, which is why the first consult (a 20 minute phone call or text session) is always free of charge.

group therapy
Periodically, halfpenny birds offers group therapy sessions that may be focused on particular themes or issues or they may be geared towards general mental health and well-being. Group sessions can be a more affordable way to attend therapy as the cost is shared among the group participants. Subscribe for email updates to receive information about groups when they are being offered.

out-of-network coverage possible
halfpenny birds is currently a private-pay, out-of-network provider. Your insurance plan may have out-of-network benefits, which means that they will reimburse you for a portion of our session cost. I have partnered with Thrizer to handle the out-of-network process automatically for you. With Thrizer, you will only have to pay a copay for our sessions, instead of paying my full fee and waiting for reimbursements. This typically allows clients to save on average 70% upfront on our sessions. During our intake process, I can help you verify if you have out-of-network benefits and how much your copay would be.
sliding scale fees
Don't have insurance? Don't have insurance that will cover out-of-network providers? halfpenny birds offers a sliding scale fee based on household income for those who cannot utilize insurance to pay for sessions.
*income verification through provision of paystubs that are re-submitted quarterly

good faith estimate
Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a medical plan or have coverage or eligible for a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have certain types of health care coverage or who are not using certain types of health care coverage an estimate of their bill for health care items and services before those items or services are provided.
-
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any health care items or services upon request or when scheduling such items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
-
If you schedule a health care item or service at least 3 business days in advance, make sure your health care provider or facility gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 1 business day after scheduling. If you schedule a health care item or service at least 10 business days in advance, make sure your health care provider or facility gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 3 business days after scheduling. You can also ask any health care provider or facility for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you do, make sure the health care provider or facility gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 3 business days after you ask.
-
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more for any provider or facility than your Good Faith Estimate from that provider or facility, you can dispute the bill.
